Becoming Cindy Crawford
Even if you don't follow the fashion or modeling industry, Cindy Crawford is likely a name you will still know. To many, she is more than a name and more than a supermodel – she is an icon! That’s why fans rejoiced when she announced she was releasing a book filled with her personal reflections and stories, as well as many never-before-seen photos from her life and career. The book was released in September 2015 and titled “Becoming.”
A Look At "Becoming"
Cindy’s career has spanned more than three decades, and the book’s release comes on the eve of her 50th birthday in February 2016. Cindy herself says of the book:
I want to honor and acknowledge the girl I once was while embracing the woman I am today, and I even look forward to the wise woman I hope I will become in future decades.
The face you have at age 25 is the face God gave you, but the face you have after 50 is the face you earned.
A book about a supermodel is sure to look beautiful on your coffee table thanks to the gorgeous photos it includes, and “Becoming” doesn’t disappoint. What stands out from “Becoming,” however, is its refreshing balance of beautiful photos and interesting content filled with actionable advice and personal stories. She recounts pivotal moments in her modeling career, but also in other areas of her life.
She even explains modeling is “what [she] does, not who she [is].” Fashion fans will enjoy some of the iconic looks she’s worn over the years, and photography fans will also appreciate the special shots she shares taken by famed photographers including Annie Leibovitz, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, and Richard Avedon, to name a few.
Aspiring models will revel in the career advice she shares based on the lessons she’s learned throughout her illustrious career since she was discovered in high school after a local newspaper featured her picture. Crawford’s modeling resume clearly qualifies her expertise; by 1998, she had covered more than 400 major fashion magazines, and she’s had major contracts with Pepsi, Maybelline, Revlon, and Versace. Although she retired from full-time modeling in 2000, she continues to appear in magazines.
She also had a line of beauty products, and home goods and furniture. Crawford’s lookalike 13-year-old daughter Kaia has also been making a name for herself in the modeling world.
Life is where you're at. Whatever you're doing is enough. You don't need to do everything well all the time. When you live your life like that, it's a huge relief.
The perfect balance of pictures and readability, “Becoming” is an enjoyable read for anyone, but certainly a must-read for models and aspiring models. While the book covers the parts of her career readers would expect it to, she also explores heavier topics like body image, motherhood, and female empowerment. Crawford challenges many of the unfair expectations people may have of models while also solidifying her icon status.
“Becoming” offers readers an insightful glimpse into the life of a supermodel icon, mother, wife, and actress that makes readers feel like fans and friends.
