Nordstrom Career and Employment Information
Founded in 1901, Nordstrom is a fashion specialty retailer with over 370 stores located throughout the United States and in Canada. The company emphasizes building long-term relationships with its employees, promoting from within, and rewarding outstanding work. Nordstrom comes in at 88 on Fortune’s annual list of Top 100 Companies to Work For.
Nordstrom offers careers in two different categories: retail and support. Retail positions include all in-store, customer-service related jobs. Support employees are typically stationed at Nordstrom’s Seattle headquarters or its e-commerce hubs in Los Angeles and New York City. Positions range from designing clothes to designing business strategies, as well as merchandising, marketing, human resources, and operations. There are also many international careers in Nordstrom’s ever-growing Canada market.
Job seekers can search for open positions on the Nordstrom Careers page. Users can search for jobs by job type, location, or keyword. You can add jobs to your job cart or apply online after creating a candidate profile. Once you have registered, you can ask to receive notifications about job openings that fit your interests. The job postings are detailed, giving information on what makes an ideal candidate for the position, necessary qualifications, and benefits.
Nordstrom Seasonal Jobs
Nordstrom hires for a variety of holiday season jobs at virtually all its retail locations. Some include seasonal retail sales, logistics, merchandising, Santa and helpers, sales, support, and administration. To find a position you’re interested in, type “seasonal,” “temporary,” or “contract” as keywords on the search page.
Nordstrom offers four different categories of competitively paid internships to college students in their junior or senior year:
- Retail Management interns get hands-on experience selling to customers, take part in-store events, and prepare for an assistant department manager role.
- Buying and Planning interns work at the headquarters and are assigned to a buying group and attend meetings with vendors and company buyers. They also work on an impact project to be presented to the buying teams at the end of their internship.
- Finance interns support the finance team at the headquarters. They get real-world experience working on impactful projects and provide insightful analysis and reporting, among other things.
- Software Engineer interns support the engineering staff to work on a wide range of customer-facing projects. Their roles involve coding, troubleshooting, and automation of web technology, cloud technology, mobile apps and more.
Applications begin in October of the preceding year for some internships. If you are interested in applying for a spot, start planning early on and apply as soon as you can – ideally during the first semester of the prior term.
Another reason to apply? Based on their successful completion of the program, interns are often offered a position within the department they worked.
Nordstrom also offers a Fashion Ambassador Program for high school juniors and seniors with enthusiasm and a passion for fashion. Interested candidates should apply beginning in February for the following school year.
Nordstrom offers a comprehensive set of benefits, tailored to the individual position. They cover medical, vision, and dental (including alternative treatments), employer matched 401k, a generous merchandise discount, an employee stock purchase plan, charitable match program, new parent programs (including fertility treatment and adoption assistance, protected maternity leave and lactation rooms), and more.
