When you stay in off-post lodging, you are entitled to Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA). Without this SNA number, TLA reimbursement will not be authorized. Stuttgart has on-post Army Family Housing quarters that are relatively small. Except for Senior Grade Officers Quarters, all the housing units located in Stuttgart are in stairwell buildings. There are no washer or dryer connections inside individual units. Most units have storage cages and/or enclosed storage rooms within the building where you may keep small items such as bicycles, sleds, and seasonal items. Each unit has an assigned uncovered parking space.
There are two-, three-, and four-bedroom units on post. The size of a family and the soldier's rank will determine the specific requirement. There are a limited number of five-plus bedroom units for large families.
Off-post housing for three-bedroom or larger apartments is very limited and very expensive when security deposits and renovation costs are taken into account. Service members should not bring their family members without first contacting the housing office to determine waiting periods for on-post housing. The Stuttgart housing office is the only entity authorized to approve off-post housing.
A limited number of on-post Senior Enlisted Bachelor Quarters are available for single E-7s and above. Single service members in grades of E-6 and below must reside in barracks. Ask the housing office to assist you with your housing needs.
The Central Enrollment and Registration Office for USAG Stuttgart is located on Patch Barracks in Building 2347, second floor. CDCs offer full-day, part-day, and hourly care for children ages six weeks through kindergarten. Family Child Care offers small, multi-age group care in a nurturing, home environment. FCC offers a variety of home care options for children ages four weeks to fifth or sixth grade. FCC hours of operation tend to be more tailored to meet the needs of military families. Also, the FCC provides career opportunities for military spouses. Contact DSN: 430-4047 CIV: 0711-680-4047 for more information.
School Age Services serves as a bridge between child development and youth services for students in grades one through five. SAS provides safe after-school activities and study environments that include computer labs with programs accredited by the National School Age Care Alliance. The school-age staff receives training in adolescent growth and development, so they are professionally equipped to interact with pre-teens (nine to 12 years old).
There are four Department of Defense Dependants' Schools located in the Stuttgart area. Each elementary school has kindergarten through grade six. Students in grades seven through 12 "feed" collectively into Patch Middle/High School. Bus service is provided to DoDDS for those living off the post where the school is located and who are on an established bus route. The schools provide hot lunches in all cafeterias.
Documents required for registration include:

Residents can find a health clinic and dental clinic on Patch Barracks.
Medical and dental services at the clinic are available free of charge to active duty service members and their command-sponsored family members. Health clinic services are available for a fee for civilians and contractors. Retirees, civilians, contractors, and their family members are seen at the dental clinic on a space-available basis only, which is extremely limited. A list of English-speaking local dentists is available at the dental clinic. Emergency medical services are not available at the health and dental clinics.
Army Hospital Heidelberg is located about a two-hour drive north of Stuttgart. It is a small community hospital available for limited specialty care by referral from the Stuttgart Health Clinic. Heidelberg Hospital is also available by toll-free telephone for medical advice when the Stuttgart Health Clinic is not open for patient care. The Stuttgart Health Clinic may also make referrals to the military medical facility at Landstuhl, also located in Germany about three hours from Stuttgart.
