01Mission of Camp Humphreys
Camp Humphreys is home to Desiderio Army Airfield, the busiest American Army airfield in Asia, and is the home garrison of the Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division. It's just over 3,400 acres total, has more than 500 buildings and an 8,000-foot runway.
Camp Humphreys is located 55 miles south of Seoul, South Korea on Expressway 1 and eight miles southeast of Route 45. It's the largest overseas U.S. military base.
02Camp Humphreys Location
Due to ongoing tensions with neighboring North Korea, Camp Humphreys' location is of some strategic significance. It's about 60 miles away from the demilitarized zone (DMZ), the buffer that separates North and South Korea.
The area surrounding Camp Humphreys is mostly flat and very humid, because of the nearby Ansong River and Asan Bay. It's made up of farming communities and rice paddies.
