Focus on Writing and Editorial Skills

Effective web content is about creating a conversation that is not only informative but also acts as a call to action for readers. Your audience needs to know what the site is about, how it helps them or what it has to offer, and specific directions on what they should do next.

A successful web content specialist will make the site’s purpose immediately clear to its readers, incorporating text which encourages them to embrace a brand, purchase a product, engage in a conversation, or click on affiliate links. To accomplish these tasks, the web content specialist must know what audience to target and how to create a great user experience.

In short, the web content specialist needs to answer these questions: what is the site about, who is it for, and what does it do?  Getting these points across is critical for the creation and recognition of the brand.

Effective web writing also enhances usability – letting readers know where they can go on the site and what they can do, with the goal of keeping them there longer. Solid writing also translates to a strong SEO, or “search engine optimization,” presence – the better your writing conveys meaning, the better the site will perform on search engines like Google or Bing.
