Virtual call centers hire two kinds of workers: employees and independent contractors. While self-employment can seem like a dream where you make your own hours and work at home, it has its disadvantages, especially for those who work in home call centers. Namely, you absorb many of the costs that the company handles for its own call center employees, you do not receive employee benefits, and you are less likely to be paid an hourly wage.

Because most work-at-home employees are seasonal and temporary workers, employee benefits are not common. For more information on what it's like to work here, read reviews of 1-800-FLOWERS by current and former employees.
